WHAT IS ISO 22000?
ISO 22000 aims to globally harmonize food safety management requirements for businesses in the food sector.
The ISO 22000 standard combines and complements the core elements of ISO 9001 and HACCP to provide an effective framework for the development, implementation and improvement of a food safety management system (FSMS) in the context of business risks.
It is intended for use by organizations that want to create more focused, coherent and integrated food safety systems than those required by law. The standard requires that the food safety system meets applicable statutory and regulatory requirements for food safety.

IS ISO 22000:2018 RIGHT FOR ME?
ISO 22000 is a basic international standard for food safety management and is suitable for any organization directly or indirectly involved in the food chain, regardless of size, from feed producers, primary producers – it is applied through food manufacturers, transport and storage operators and subcontractors of retail outlets and catering establishments. It is applicable to organizations such as – farms, fish farms and dairies, meat, fish and feed processing companies, including manufacturers of soups, snacks, bread, beverages, canned and frozen foods, etc., as well as catering service providers for restaurants, fast food chains, hospitals and hotels.
The standard is also applicable to interconnected organizations, such as manufacturers of equipment, packaging materials, cleaning agents, additives and ingredients. It can also be applied to service providers.
In short, the requirements of ISO 22000 can be applied to all products in the food industry or food chain.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF IMPLEMENTING ISO 22000?
The development of a Food Safety Management System represents a "proactive", systematic and logical approach to solving food safety problems.
The structure of the standard closely resembles that of other existing international standards. It is believed that this common approach will enable organizations to integrate a single management system that meets the requirements of two or more management system standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001).
- The system helps you reduce investigation time for food safety violations
- Increases your confidence with customers and stakeholders
- Increases competitiveness in your organization
- It is useful for anticipating potential problems that may arise in food safety management.
- The system enables adequate and timely response in cases that may threaten the food safety of products and production processes.
- Improves knowledge of legal requirements applicable to food safety
- Improves the image of your organization
Implementing the requirements of this standard will benefit your organization, as it provides greater transparency, both by minimizing the main risks in food and by providing greater security for both customers and the end consumer.
