Italy prepares new tests for motorcycle safety devices

Notification 2026/0261/IT for a draft regulation on protective devices for motorcyclists installed on road restraint systems remains open in the TRIS system until 26 August 2026. The draft is not yet an effective law. It provides that the devices are tested according to UNI CEN/TS 17342:2019 and that the CE-marked road barrier is re-tested with the installed device according to EN 1317-5 in order to confirm or modify its declared performance. Manufacturers, notified bodies, testing laboratories, designers and road administrations should review the configurations, the scope of evidence and the correspondence between the test reports, the CE documentation and the specific installation. Opinions in TRIS are accepted until the end of the standstill period.
Spain revises gas installation safety regime

TRIS is accepting opinions on notification 2026/0262/ES for a new Spanish technical regulation on the safety of gaseous fuels infrastructure and installations until 27 August 2026. This is a draft, not an existing requirement. It covers the distribution, transport and use of gaseous fuels and gas appliances and aims at a general update of the technical requirements and safety guarantees. The notification is designated as a technical regulation or conformity assessment procedure. Manufacturers, importers, installers, inspection and testing bodies and gas infrastructure operators should compare the installations concerned with their current procedures, certificates and evidence. In case of a significant deviation, an opinion can be submitted to TRIS until 23:59:59 CET on the deadline date.
Belgium extends review of restrictions on flavored e-cigarettes

The current entry under TRIS notification 2026/0254/BE shows an extended standstill period until 26 November 2026 following detailed submissions from Greece and Romania. The Belgian draft is not in force. It provides that only tobacco flavour and unflavoured products remain permissible for liquids with and without nicotine and prohibits technical components that change the smell, taste or colour of the emissions. For manufacturers, importers, laboratories and organisations assessing product formulations and documentation, this is an early warning of a possible change in the permissible formulations and evidence for the Belgian market. The transitional regime, the final text and the reactions of the Commission and the Member States should be followed before changes to the product portfolio.
